Reel Rush isn't tied to a single boat or operator. You get honest guidance on the right trip, boat and timing for what you're after β not a sales pitch for one fleet.
You deal directly with an experienced local skipper, not an office or a middleman. When available, your trip is personally skippered.
Years of commercial fishing, deckhand and skippering experience mean real, hands-on knowledge of these waters β not second-hand information.
Trips are arranged on licensed charter vessels operating from Shelly Beach and surrounding launch sites, with the boat matched to your trip, group and the day's conditions.
Serious beach, rock and night sessions targeting big sharks on heavy tackle, all tag and release.
Offshore trips for tuna, marlin, dorado, wahoo and bottom fish, fishing productive grounds including Protea Banks.
Kids and first-timers are welcome β trips can be tailored for a relaxed family day on the water as easily as a hardcore session.
Reading the weather, the currents and the water on any given day comes from real time on the South Coast β knowledge that puts you in the best position to succeed.
Reel Rush arranges deep sea trips aboard licensed charter vessels operating from Shelly Beach β as an independent guide, not tied to one boat or operator. The right vessel is matched to your group, target species and the day's conditions.
Yellowfin Tuna, Longfin Tuna, Skipjack, Dorado, Wahoo, Couta and Yellowtail.
Amberjack, Kingfish and a range of productive bottom fish grounds.
Sailfish, Black Marlin, Blue Marlin and Striped Marlin in season offshore.
Productive areas including Protea Banks β a world-renowned offshore reef system known for consistent action.
Arrive Ready to Fish β quality bait and tackle are supplied on charter trips. You focus on the fight, the boat crew handles the rest.
This is what Reel Rush is known for. Serious shark sessions on heavy tackle, run from the beach, the pier, or straight off the rocks β set up with quality bait and gear, and prepared to wait for the moment a big shark takes it.
Beach & rock sessions: land-based shark fishing from open beach launches or straight off the rocks, chosen for conditions and access on the day. Night fishing is where the serious action happens, since many of the biggest sharks feed under cover of darkness.
Large sharks regularly exceeding 200kg patrol these waters. Gear is set up on heavy tackle to handle the fight, and when one runs, you'll feel every kilo of it.
All shark catches are tag and release only, with photos to mark the moment before the fish swims away healthy. Sharks are handled carefully and released promptly β the goal is a great fight and a healthy, conservation-minded release, every time.
Ready to experience it? Book or call anytime β happy to answer questions and help you plan your session.
Reel Rush is an independent booking service, not a charter operator. Deep sea trips are arranged on licensed charter vessels operating from Shelly Beach and surrounding launch sites.
The best available boat is selected for your trip based on your group, target species, and the day's conditions β you're never limited to a single vessel.
Payment for the trip is made directly to the charter operator running the boat.
When available, your trip can be personally skippered, so you're dealing directly with the skipper running the boat rather than an office or a middleman.

I've spent thousands of hours at sea on the South Coast β working as a commercial fisherman, deckhand and freelance skipper.
That time on the water has built real, hands-on knowledge of these waters: reading the weather, reading the currents, understanding where fish hold, and knowing how to keep a trip safe while still finding fish.
As a freelance skipper, I'm not tied to one boat or one operator β which means my priority is finding the right trip for you, on a licensed vessel suited to the conditions and what you're after.
My goal is simple: to help you enjoy the safest, most professional and most memorable trip possible β the kind that gets your heart racing, your arms burning, and leaves you with a story worth telling.
Whether it's offshore game fish or an adrenaline-filled shark fight from the rocks, you're not just booking a trip β you're stepping into a real South Coast fishing experience.
From June through August, the annual sardine run hits our coastline β and this is when the fishing becomes exceptional.
During this period, sharks move in close to shore in large numbers, feeding aggressively on bait balls pushed along the coast.
The KwaZulu-Natal sardine run is a world-famous migration, often called the "greatest shoal on earth" β and it passes right along this stretch of South Coast.
But itβs not just about sharks.
The sardine run also attracts Garrick (Leervis), Kingfish, Natal Snoek, Cob (Salmon), and Big Shad β making it one of the most productive gamefish windows of the year.
It's also prime time for wildlife: humpback whales and dolphins follow the shoals in close to shore, often visible from the beach as well as from the boat. Keep an eye out too for sea turtles, flying fish and seabirds working over feeding fish.
Winter on the South Coast offers beautiful, clear subtropical weather β calm days ideal for both offshore and surf fishing.
If youβre serious about shark fishing, June to August is prime time.
Adrenaline. Big Fish. Heavy Tackle. Raw Ocean Power.
Feel the rod buckle and the drag scream as you take on muscle-wrecking fights β from deep sea strikes offshore to hard-pulling sharks from the rocks.
This is the excitement of a lifetime β big wave rushes, pounding surf, crystal-clear water, and in season, unforgettable dolphin and whale sightings along our coastline.
Every trip is real, unpredictable, and fully alive β salt spray in your face, heart racing, and the kind of fishing that keeps you coming back for more.
This isnβt sightseeing β itβs serious fishing, high adrenaline, and a true South Coast experience.
Please note that a valid fishing licence is required for both deep sea and rock & surf fishing. For your convenience, we can arrange this on your behalf (an admin fee may apply).
